It Spins

When I was thirteen years old my uncle taught me how to slowly lower the arm of a record player onto the vinyl record without scratching it. Vinyl records….a very delicate thing. This concept was quite figurative in comparison to threading a sewing machine while it is running.  The needle itself that scratched out the audio and transferred it to the speakers was made of nylon I believe and would dull over time. If you didn’t replace it regularly it would widen the grooves in the vinyl disc causing them to sound bad. The alternative though was to buy needles made of graphite commonly called diamond tips. These eventually had to be replaced too but not as often and they didn’t dull, they would just snap over time.  When compact discs (or, laser discs) came along we were led to believe that they were virtually indestructible. The Last in Line

The last in line is a actually the name of a Dio song about some wayward bunch of eccentric…somebodies seeking some truth of esoteric things to find out if their end result is that of evil or holy.  They are the last in line. My favorite line in the song is “we are the hand that writes and quickly moves away.” This is to suggest that they exist in the shadows somehow affecting change through some passive will.  On a side note, as I wrote this post I’m not really sure which of the two blogs I will put it in. My own experience with the last in line has been that of my childhood and teenage years that the last in line was arranged by pecking order. The cool kids, the popular ones, they were first in line. Everyone in the back of the line were the outcasts,  nerds, geeks, or anyone else that just didn’t fit in with anyone else or each other like the goths, freaks, metal heads, etc. In school the last in line was a safe place.  Going to the back was a good way not to draw...

When I Am

Spring and fall are probably my two favorite seasons of the year. For one, its not to hot and not to cold. Second I guess is the wind. Hearing it in the trees brings me this peace of mind that is just priceless. The chaotic symphony of nature with its crescendos, its pitch rising and falling and coming to a howling sound like that of some wraith improving a heartfelt expression of drama befitting of its condition. With the wind comes the debris. In the fall it’s those golden-brown leaves being snatched up and carried away or just falling lazily like burned out stars to pile up on the ground beneath its benefactor, picked clean and changing the color of the world all around.  In the spring, vibrant with the return of color, the blossoms have their moment in the new sun. springing forth, in the essence of that two-fold meaning of the word in itself, they decorate the tree lines with pastels before covering the world with the chaos of new beginnings coming to an end.
